SAS Library

Library

St. Anthony School's main library includes a large selection of Accelerated Reader books as well as high interest reading materials. The Keiki Library, a separate annex room is filled with books for early readers. The room was painted by St. Anthony's Parish Senior Girl Scout Troop as a Silver Award Project to reflect popularly loved children's classics including "Goodnight Moon", "Dr. Seuss", "The Hungry Caterpillar" and much more. Library visits are part of the entire school's curriculum from early learning to eighth grade to develop a love of reading and learning.

BrainPOP

We’re excited BrainPOP is now part of our St. Anthony School curriculum! Continuing to move forward with our 21st Century initiative, we are so happy to offer our currently enrolled students access to BrainPOP, BrainPOP, jr. and BrainPOP Español.

So, what is BrainPOP? BrainPOP creates animated, curriculum-based content that supports educators and engages students. Hundreds of topics within Science, Social Studies, English, Math, Technology, Arts & Music and Health are all brought to life through short, animated movies and related interactive quizzes and features.

BrainPOP Jr. provides educational movies for K-3 learners and addresses a wide range of grade-appropriate topics. Each animated topic has a movie, leveled quizzes, games, activities, and lesson ideas that develop critical thinking and inquiry skills. All content is read aloud so young students can browse the site on their own and all content is aligned to and searchable by state standards.

BrainPOP Español provides BrainPOP content in Spanish.

Our subscription allows students full access, and school and home, to all movies, quizzes, and interactive resources 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Our subscription does not permit us to post our username and password but this information is available from your child’s teacher. Additionally, you can email Joyce Pollock to request the username and password to be sent to you via email. Because the BrainPOP products are delivered entirely online, there’s nothing to install or download. You can use BrainPOP resources with PCs or Macs. Are you an Iphone or Ipad user? If so, look for the free App!

Tumble Books

TumbleBookLibrary is an online collection of TumbleBooks™ animated, talking picture books which teach kids the joy of reading. TumbleBooks are created by adding animation, sound, music and narration to existing picture books in order to produce an electronic picture book which you can read, or have read to you.

The TumbleBookLibrary provides enrichment to students who are reading independently with a variety of high interest material. It also provides support to students who require skill building with a variety of exercises that can be matched with other areas of the curriculum.

The TumbleBook collection is accessed online from every computer in your school or library with Internet connection, or from home through a direct link on your school or library website.

About the TumbleBook Library:

SAS Tumble Books Page

The TumbleBookLibrary is a collection of TumbleBooks (animated, talking picture books) TumblePuzzles, and TumbleQuizzes, as well as TumbleResources for teachers. TumbleBooks are created from existing picture books which we have licensed from children's book publishers and converted to the TumbleBook format.

There are a number ways you can access a book:

  • The index page lists all the TumbleBooks and TumbleGames. Click on the hyperlink and it will take you right to that TumbleBook.
  • Scroll through the collection in any of the sections to read the descriptions and view the reading levels.

Add your favorite title(s) to the My Favorites section for easy access any time. This feature is cookied onto individual computers.

TumbleSearch: Our online search allows you to search by title, author, publisher, and language. In addition, you can search by reading levels: in both Automatic and Manual modes.

Automatic/Manual Button: TumbleBooks are designed to be experienced in either automatic or manual mode. In automatic mode, the pages turn by themselves and are narrated; in manual mode, the narration is turned off and users turn the pages at their own speed.

The Pause Button: Both the student and teacher can use the pause button to stop the story at any time in order to practice story prediction, interpret pictures, discuss new vocabulary words, empathize with a character, discuss possible consequences of actions, encourage problem solving, or provide historical, geographical, or other perspectives.

Word Helper: This feature allows you to click on a book to hear a sentence repeated, or click on a vocabulary word in order to hear it pronounced.

Reading Levels: Each title has recommended reading levels for both automatic and manual modes. Click on the reading level to see other books at the same level.

Book Reports: Students can create their own book reports after reading a book. You may fill out the online form or print it out.

TumbleQuizzes:/ Each title has an accompanying TumbleQuiz: a fun, flash-animated, multiple-choice quiz that each student can take online after reading a book to test their reading comprehension.

TumbleGames: The TumblePuzzles and TumbleGames are great educational tools.

Language Learning: Our Language Learning section has a growing collection of books in Spanish and French.

Navigate en Espanol/ en Francais: Our drop down menu on the top right hand corner of the site allows you to view the entire site in Spanish or French.

TumbleMailer and Record-a-Book Feature: Your students and staff members can now send TumbleCards and TumbleBooks to friends and family through our TumbleMailer feature. They can also narrate and record their own TumbleBooks!

TumblePlayer: The TumblePlayer allows students, teachers, librarians and parents to preload a number of TumbleBooks in an online player in order to be played one after another. Perfect for library story time. The TumblePlayer works just like an online music player.

Scholastic Book Fair

It’s time once again for the Scholastic Book Fair! Each fall, St. Anthony School hosts a book fair as a fundraiser for our school library. This year the fair will be held from November 14-18 with a Family Night on Wednesday, 16 November from 5-7 pm. On family night bring a blanket and pillows to help you get comfortable while our medley of special readers read short books to the kids. Enjoy free popcorn and lemonade from the PTSG. Other food available for purchase. If you know of a charismatic person, local figure, or actor who would enjoy reading a short book at this event, please contact Donna Otto at 630-1690 or rdo@hawaii.rr.com

And for parents who might like to sneak in a little early Christmas shopping, we will also be open Thursday evening, prior to the PTSG meeting.

We will also be offering a new and exciting feature to the fair this year, the Online Book Fair that will run from November 7-22. For more details, look for information coming home in the Tuesday folders, or check the library page of our school website. If you would like to volunteer, email Joyce Pollock at jpollock@saskailua.org.
