5th grade students who helped with ever Permanent Beach Clean Up Station

SAS 5th Grade helps launch beach clean up station

St. Anthony School 5th graders recently participated in the launch of O’ahu’s first ever Permanent Beach Clean Up Station next to Kailua Beach Adventures.  Spearheaded by Plastic Free Hawa’i’, a Kokua Hawai’i Foundation program, this project has been made possible by the efforts of several partners, including St. Anthony School.

As shown in the photographs, SAS 5th graders walked down to Kailua Beach to collect micro plastics using repurposed bags provided by the Beach Clean Up Station.  In a short amount of time, they managed to clear 18 pounds of plastics that could possibly end up in the ocean, posing a threat to local marine life.  Mahalo to Mrs. Thiel and Mrs. Maldonado for coordinating this experience that has allowed our keiki to set an example for how we can care for our planet.
